Intro
'Work / life balance' ...Back in the 80's it was called Work / Life & Family ... it never really worked. The family part that is ... It was a bit unreasonable for the company to actually think they could influence family when we were all working so hard to achieve the company results. Today, it's more realistic to talk about Work / Life balance. So, for those who know me well, it's clear there's no substituting work as a major axis of 'life' ... on the other hand, we have a range of interests that we enjoy ...

Painting
My dearest Grubby wonder has become a painter! And yes ... she's a good one. In April, 2008 she held her first exhibition in Beirut and it was a big success. Today, this is so important to her that we must have a studio in our apartment ... here are some of Shiree in action and her work ... you decide.

Flute
emmdub decided to learn flutes and whistles ... In 2000 we went on a fantastic 2 week holiday in Ireland. We hired a boat and travelled a large part of the River Shannon. While there, I bought a cheap penny whistle which I persisted in annoying Shiree with while at anchor. I also bought a Bodhram drum ... but that's another story. All of this has led to a decision to learn to play long D whistles and irish wooden flutes.
Today I own a range of Low Whistles (D, Eb, G, F) and a normal D whistle, plus a recorder made in cherry wood. My pride and joy now though, are two wooden flutes (D and Eb) made by an Australian flute maker called Terry McGee. Mine are in African Blackwood but otherwise look like the one above.
All I have to do now is learn how to play them!

Welcome to my first 'exhibition'
I first thought about exhibiting when studying at IMD in Switzerland. One day towards the end of a 10 week program we spent a day in the mountains to contemplate our futures. One thing we were asked to do was to write down 27 things we wanted to do before we die! I challenge you to try it - it's not so easy and should take you about an hour if you're uninterrupted.
So, I wrote down that one of the 27 things that I wanted to do was to hold a photographic exhibition ... a web site is the initial result ... go check it out for much more info about my photography hobby.
